Getaways from Bangalore
The Bush Betta Resort
The Bush Betta Resort is the country's only wildlife adventure
resort. You can be rest assured you're in for an exciting vacation!
Placed right next to the Bandipur National Park, it stretches from
the wildlife parks of Mudumalai and Nagarhole in the south and west
to BR Hills in the east. In the midst of the wilds stand luxuriously
appointed cottages, each with its own courtyard, waterfall and terrace.
Add to this the sunken bar of the 3,400 sq ft swimming pool, the
Nawabi and Indo-European cuisine, a health club, a library, a supermarket,
a shopping arcade and you have the recipe for a perfect holiday.
And we still have to get to the most thrilling part of the deal
- the Bandipur National Park. You can explore the wildlife trails
on jeep or the back of an elephant, camp out in a tent in the park,
trek in the company of tribal guides, click pictures from hidden
machaans, check out the Bush Betta camp on the Kabini and fish in
the Kaveri river.

Belur & Halebid
This one is certainly for culture freaks who savour visits to ancient
temples and monuments and go into great raptures about intricate
carvings and detailed paintings. Don't even expect anything but
a sleepy pace of life in a small place that's crammed with more
temples than you can count on your fingers. In fact it's just the
kind of place to send your parents or in-laws away to.
Belur on the banks of the river Yagachi makes an extremely pleasant
retreat in the winter. The end of the year (or the beginning, for
that matter) is the perfect season to stroll leisurely through the
many temples that dot the city. The sun is gentle enough for you
to be out there enjoying the architecture without fear of a sunburn.
Halebid is most famous for the Hoysaleshwara Temple which lies
incomplete till this day despite the fact that masons and stone
carvers laboured at it for 80 long years.
Stay At
Belur and Halebid offer tourist accommodation including government-run
hotels.

B R Hills
Biligiriranganabetta is more simply known as BR Hills. It's a cool
hill getaway at a height of 5,091ft above sea level and is very
popular with Bangaloreans.
Located between the rivers Kaveri and Tungabhadra, it's a great
place for nature lovers. In fact, this is just the right place to
take your city-born kids to for a practical, hands-on crash course
in the importance of our environment and our natural habitat. Spread
across 450 sq km, the sanctuary is home to gaur, chital, sambar,
elephants, tigers, panthers and bears.
Situated atop a hill stands the Biligirirangaswami temple dedicated
to Lord Venkatesha, popularly known as Ranganatha. It is this ancient
temple that gives Biligiriranganabetta its tongue-twister of a name.
Stay At
There are a number of rest houses available at good prices in Biligiriranganabetta.
You can also choose to stay in a deluxe tent camp.

Hogenakkal
Hogenakkal is a must-do for honeymooners or families with kids.
Located on the border between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, it is known
for its stupendous waterfall. Plummeting down a steep cliff, the
otherwise gentle Kaveri raises such a spray here that it gives the
place its name, which in Kannada means Smoking Rock.
In fact, till a few decades ago, it was mandatory for every Tamil
movie to shoot at least one scene in the picturesque Hogenakkal
falls.
There's a lot that one can do here - walk along tree-lined paths,
climb up mountain trails, splash under the falls or fish in the
streams. Whatever you do, don't ever return home without treating
yourself to a massage at the expert hands of the town's masseurs!
And a bottle of fresh honey from the apiaries that abound around
here.

Kodaikanal
Kodaikanal, or Kodai as it is popularly known, is a serene hill
station in the Palani Hills of Tamil Nadu.
A great romantic getaway, Kodai is at its best in the months from
April to June. Though November to February are interesting and cold…ideal
for a honeymoon.
Wooded hills, pleasant walks, glistening waterfalls and a mesmerizing
beautiful lake could be the highlights of your visit to this retreat.
Apart from nature, you can take in the temples, mosques, churches,
museums, rock formations and ancient caves.
The Kodai Summer Festival, known for its exciting boat race and
exquisite flower show, is held every May so you could easily catch
it. If you are a gardening enthusiast, don’t miss the country’s
best orchidorium, which grows more than 300 species of orchids.
